Ayre V-6 multichannel power amplifier:
Measurements The frequency response of the Ayre V-6 measured -0.04dB at 10Hz, -0.02dB at 20kHz, and -0.22dB at 50kHz, balanced or single-ended. The amplifier's gain measured 25.8dB in both modes. The signal/ noise ratio, A-weighted relative to an output of 1W into 8ohms, was -107.9dB in balanced mode. The THD+noise at 1W into 8ohms, balanced, measured 0.012% at 20Hz, 0.011% at 1kHz, and 0.004% at 20kHz. THD+noise at 2W into 4ohms measured 0.061% at 20Hz, 0.065% at 1kHz, and 0.004% at 20kHz, also balanced. Into an 8ohms load, with six channels driven, the V-6 clipped (1% THD+noise) at 137W per channel at 20Hz and 138Wpc at 1kHz (151Wpc with two channels driven at 1kHz). Into a 4ohms load, six channels driven, clipping occurred at 204Wpc at 20Hz and 201Wpc at 1kHz (263Wpc with two channels driven at 1kHz). The results presented here are for the left channel, to the nearest watt, at a line voltage of 120V.—Thomas J. Norton
