NuVision NVU52DCM LCD TV:
Measurements
Settings The grayscale-calibration controls are available only in the service menu, which end users cannot access. To fully calibrate this set, consult a qualified technician.
Image Settings Contrast & Resolution Peak white level
Peak contrast ratio 1400:1 Overscan
The component input was severely rolled off at highest frequency. Overscan performance was better than most sets at resolutions below 1080i/p. Black level was slightly lower than the Sony KDL-52XBR4's effective black level. Measurements were taken in the NuVision's Night backlight mode. Grayscale & Color Temperature
Before calibration, the grayscale tended toward red in the low end and blue in the high end.
Calibration got the grayscale closer to D65, but it was still quite non-linear, with the high end tending toward blue. Having only a single set of RGB controls prevented a more-accurate calibration.
Color temperature steadily increased before calibration, exceeding 8000K at the high end.
The color-temp profile remained unchanged after calibration, but it was reduced overall, reaching 8000K only at the top of the brightness scale. Color Accuracy
Blue predominated throughout most of the brightness range before calibration.
Color proportions were much better in the lower half of the brightness range after calibration, but they diverged above 60 IRE, with blue predominating.
Clearly, green was way oversaturated, bringing cyan with it. Yellow was slightly orange, and magenta tended toward red. Blue and red were right on the money.
